Exercise

Hey Friends!

It has been a long, long time!  I'm so sorry :(  We were just starting to get to know each other, and there I go!  Escaping from blog land.

But enough of that.  Onwards!

I wanted to talk about something semi-sewing related.  Is that ok?

Several months ago a friend of mine said something that really made me start to think about some things, and in reference to my sewing, I have come to this conclusion.

It doesn't matter how well you choose your designs, fit the pattern, and sew the clothes.  If you don't take the time to care for your body, you won't feel good in them.

So, I have been exercising.  It is starting to get to the point that I get that "runner's high" after the torture of getting through the workouts, but the results are worth it.

Motivation!!  I want to look like this!

What about you?  Do you have a good way to keep in shape?  What do you use for motivation?  I have dreams of my body being in really awesome shape, but I also have another motivator.  I really want to look great in the clothes I sew for myself!  I want to have a happy and healthy future.  I want to lessen my chance of diseases such as diabetes, breast cancer, colon cancer, and heart disease.

I know I don't physically look like much of a motivator for others right now, but maybe I can help encourage at least one of you to get out and do something!

Sorry this wasn't terribly sewing related, but it has been a huge aspect of my sewing lately.

  1. A great point! So many people try to make up for unhealthiness by relying on clothes that make them look "better".

    Even the "frumpy" clothing looks way better when you feel good about your health.

    It is so true! I love how when I'm doing something active to care for my body, I feel hot even in sweatpants and a t-shirt.

  3. The only problem with being a sewer who works out is that my body is always changing shape. So something that fits me now probably won't fit so well in a few months. Although I guess I can just master the art of alterations. :)

  5. Carrie, I'm terrified of that same problem! Lol. I have a few projects that I've been wanting to start on (like Gertie's bombshell dress), but I'm so afraid that by the time I get done making it, I won't fit it anymore! Gah!!!

    Dibs, Gyms are over-rated. I workout at home :) Or on my bike when the weather cooperates.

  7. I totally understand and relate to this. I want my clothes to fit better! And I want to be able to wear all of my clothes. I swear Im like Janet Jackson, I have clothes in all kinds of sizes. Very motivating.

  10. Oh hey, that's so cool! We are thinking along very similar lines, how amazing!
    In a nutshell I've been thinking 'capsule/core wardrobe' and perfect fit - and that both aspects have lots to do with being toned. I'd love it if I looked slimmer but I'm happy with the improved posture you get from exercising just that bit. I do specific arm exercises every so often but I also walk up each escalator I come across each day. I want to eat as healthily as I can (lots of veg) but need to improve on that.
    But the whole thing very much goes hand in hand in how I want my clothes to sit and drape on me! I also feel a bit held back but I'm now thinking of doing at least a couple of wrap dresses/skirts for fluctuating waistlines! Hoping to blog about that subject soon.
